Steve K is worried about the academy:Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1816, “If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be.”
As anyone who has been to college or a university knows, leftwing ideas and perspectives dominate every part of the campus.
Pi is now 3.13, Pluto is not politically correct enought to be a planet, yadda yadda yadda. Here's the funny part:
This is a big part of why Obama and the political left are pushing that everyone go to college, and even have government (taxpayers) pay for it. The more impressionable young minds that are systematically indoctrinated, the more liberal Democrat voters there will be. In essence, this is no different than a re-education camp, but we pay for it in more ways than one.
So much for my dreams of fancy and new re-education camps with the latest torture equipment.

Today they study “Queer Rhetorics”, “Feminist Studies”, “Gender and Sexuality Issues in Media”, “Sex and Gender in Society “, “Social Protest, Conflict and Change”, “Modern Marxist Theory”, “Wealth Distribution and Poverty”, and many other postmodern, politically correct classes - designed to foster a sense of guilt and hatred for Western civilization, particularly America. Feelings are emphasized over reason, creativity over knowledge, and socialism over capitalism.
Because nothing pisses off white dudes like the idea of a) women getting an education and b) learning about all the ways they've been co-opted into furthering oppression

Where do they get this?
Here's Obama in his recent interview with the Times Sunday magazine:
[Question:] Staying on the Great Depression, it led to a surge in high-school graduation. A high-school diploma during that decade or two went from being elite to the norm, and it became a ticket to the middle class. I’m curious what you think today’s ticket to the middle class is. Do you want everybody aspiring to a four-year-college degree? Is a two-year or vocational degree enough? Or is simply attending college, whether or not you graduate, sufficient to reach the middle class?
THE PRESIDENT: We set out a goal in my speech to the joint session that said everybody should have at least one year of post-high-school training. And I think it would be too rigid to say everybody needs a four-year-college degree. I think everybody needs enough post-high-school training that they are competent in fields that require technical expertise, because it’s very hard to imagine getting a job that pays a living wage without that — or it’s very hard at least to envision a steady job in the absence of that.
And so to the extent that we can upgrade not only our high schools but also our community colleges to provide a sound technical basis for being able to perform complicated tasks in a 21st-century economy, then I think that not only is that good for the individuals, but that’s going to be critical for the economy as a whole.
I want to emphasize, though, that part of the challenge is making sure that folks are getting in high school what they need as well.
Which means that not only will colleges and universities become re-education camps, but community colleges, technical schools, and high schools as well. There will be no escape.
"As anyone who has been to college or a university knows, leftwing ideas and perspectives dominate every part of the campus."
Only if this hypothetical person has managed to completely avoid the business, mathematics, science, and engineering departments. Which are, y'know, so small and all.
Edumacation is a bad thing. It should only be in enough subjects to allow you to get a factory job and stop thinking about anything more than surviving another week.
Is there nothing that the right wing cannot use as an excuse for wetting the bed?
So: because more educated people tend to vote more Democratic, the Democrats want to make people more ignorant by ensuring education is more accessible to more people? I guess studying "Logic" would have been too homo/po-mo/pussifying for him.
I like to start the day with a John Cale allusion.
In anticipation of changes in the civil engineering curriculum I have begun driving on the left side of the road. I'll let you know how it goes.

As part of my preparation for when this great nation becomes a full-blown European socialist state, I now cut my food with my knife in my right hand and my fork in my left as usual, but then I keep my fork in my left hand to eat my food. That's right, I'm not making the switch!
we pay for it in more ways than one.
Whenever I hear this locution, I expect the speaker to come through and actually specify HOW MANY ways we DO pay for it, just to prove that they've worked out the economics. Two? Eleventy-one? Six-and-a-half? They never do, but I never lose hope.
