Jennifer discovers that Keanu [in The Day the Earth Stood Still] is sort of a spaceman Al Gore - like Al Gore himself - on an enlightened mission to save the earth from pollution. How is he going to accomplish that? Why, by destroying the human race that causes all the mess, of course. That’s right. He’s going to murder every man, woman and child so the trees won’t die. And he’s the good guy!I do not recall such genocidal plans on the part of Al Gore, but if he has them I'm going to bet that they would be implemented with an eye towards efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Also:
In real life, from the banning of DDT* that left the third world to the mercy of malaria through to Al Gore’s current assault on our economy in the name of an hysterical nonsense, the environmental movement has been very dangerous stuff.Indeed one can scarcely imagine the breathtaking toll on the economy that unfettered
*Take note, dummy.

Shorter Klavan:
"DDT did a job on me,
Now I am a real sickie."
An interpretation of The Trees by Klavan might yield surprising results.
Hmm. Seems to me that in "Point Break" Keanu was a sort of a Spaceman George Tenet, if George Tenet had not actually pretended he cared one whit about the CIA and smoked a little more of the chronic.
Duuuude. That Osama - what an ASSHOLE, man...
"DDT did a job on me,
Now I am a real sickie."
For me it was Fuller's ESB, but the effect was the same.
"In real life it appears that banning of DDT did not happen at all.
Well... fuck.
Al Gore is still fat and Rush Limbaugh sends messages to only me with his eyes"
Comments there are fun.
While I will agree with Klavan that the movie was a complete piece of shit, I am still baffled at his interpretation of Reeves as the good guy in this movie. The whole freaking point is that Reeves is a compassionless menace until he is convinced that humanity, despite its flaws, is worth saving. The hero is Connally. What a maroon.
It's like he's Peoria.
That's quite a comment thread over there.
Bubba: Um, guys, here are the facts. Care to take a look?
Commenters: I'm not going to read something written by an environmental wacko like you! Don'y you know you're killing children?
Bubba: As I was saying, here are the facts. Care to take a look?
Commenters: You fascist! You're killing children! How can you live with yourself?
It's like a troll-only zone.
Attempting to settle an issue of opinion by invoking mere facts is cheating. Non-overlapping magisteria and all that.
I actually set out to do something about my overlapping magisteria, especially in light of all this free time I have on my hands these days.
But I hurt my shoulder on the treadmill. So it's likely that the overlap of my magisteria will only increase over time.
Hey. One could dervive a polynomical expression from my overlapping magisteria. Um, if one had even more free time on one's hands than I...
One could dervive a polynomical expression from my overlapping magisteria.
And lint.
UPDATE!
I'm just like Dr. Mengele!
Piker! Parvenu! I bet you haven't actually conducted research on twins.
I have, but the files won't play.
Those people who were satirising Goldberg's silly book with reductios ad absurdum like "Environmentalism is the Josef Mengele of Liberal Fascism" -- well, I hope they're sorry now.
I bet you haven't actually conducted research on twins.
And before you get carried away -- according to the APA style-book, Letters to Penthouse are not legitimate citation.
Ex-citations??????????? Dr.Magilla
I have left a trail of illegitimate citations behind me and I JUST DON'T CARE.
