If you interpret this murder as a political act, rather than that of a lone whacko, than this should be a troubling sign that the political system has failed. So why do so many people think that the obvious answer is simply to more firmly entrench laws that are rightly intolerable to someone who thinks that a late term fetus is a person?Someone should point out to Ms. Galt that the laws that are firmly entrenched restrict abortion. It's the absence of an abortion law to his liking that Mr. Not-So-Lone Whacko is pissed about.
But this is the tedium of McArdle: goofier and funnier nutballs think their enemies are terrorist faggot Muslims, while she is content to assume her opponents over-regulate.

I think negros should have separate schools so I don't have to look at them. Hanging should convince them this is appropriate. Laws should be adjusted to accommodate my views instead of becoming entrenched to protect their rights. This is a failure of politics.
I think it eats balls that banks have all the money. Where do they get off? I'm getting a gun.
Ok, I've actually read this three times. I keep coming to the same conclusion. It seems that she's saying that the appropriate response to political terrorism and murderous intimidation is to meekly surrender to their demands.
Am I missing something, or is that REALLY what she's saying? Because I can see at least one really huge flaw in that theory...

Yeah, she's a stupid asshole.
I actually went and read some of McArdle's blatherings. Even more dunderheaded than I thought. She seems to think the Civil War automatically rendered African-Americans legal "persons" which, of course, it did not. The Constitution had to be amended.
She seems to envision a new Civil War over abortion, with Tiller being the Fort Sumter, and the process will play out again. Which is fucking stupid.
But she was great in the original stage version of "Annie."
Does she also think the shooting of a soldier at a Little Rock recruitment center means we should get out of Iraq and Afghanistan? You can't make me go look there myself.

You know, given her ridiculous language and tried-and-true tropes, you could make the argument that she's trying to get government out of the abortion business and leave the regulation up to gun-totin' hicks...
And if I look at my own reasoning, well, frankly, it's not even reasoning. I've never sat down and thought, "how do I know that Africans are human beings?" I know. And I'm enough of a Chestertonian to be okay with that way of knowing. But presumably if I'd been raised in 1840 Alabama, I'd know just as certainly that they weren't.
Chew on that, relativists!
Which is to say that if James Dobson had been raised in Afghanistan he'd have been Mullah Omar.
On the surface an obvious "given", but it does expose certain larger truths...

Just as there were quite a few cosmopolitan humanists in Afghanistan, so too were there abolitionists in Alabama.
Sure, Dobson and Omar, then too, by her own admission, McArdle falls in the camp of evil fucks.
by her own admission, McArdle falls in the camp of evil fucks.
Exactly. She has essentially admitted that she will automatically side with power and status quo.
Nice libertarian.
The government should do something about those libertarians.
They could round them up and put them in libertarian camps.
With libraries.
Only these libraries would replace the contents of all their Ayn Rand "books" with Noam Chomsky.

Yeah she's saying that the gubbermint should cave in to the murderer.
Pure class.
Presumably the laws she is ridiculing -- or rather, ridiculing the simplistic, knee-jerk reaction that the laws should be enforced more strictly -- are those against killing doctors,
Great minds et cetera.
In the good old days, at Bologna university, as the students left the lecture they would pay if they thought it had been a good lecture. Thus shooting evil doctors is just democracy in action because if they didn't do evil stuff, no one would shoot them.

In the future we will vote via eye-rolls.
Voting? Don't talk to me about voting. In my day, if we wanted to ostacise someone, we had to make our own ostraca. You kids today have it easy.
We had to make up our own pudep, too -- none of that Captcha.
Things were much easier when you could send your slave to vote for you. Except for that time when the slaves voted themselves extra gruel. Ho ho, lesson learned!
